40,000 infected, 1 dead as dengue spreads in Bangkok

Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness

More than 40,000 people in Bangkok have been infected with dengue fever, a third of the 120,000 infections that officials estimate have occurred nationwide. At least one person has died in Bangkok and 50 others have perished throughout Thailand.

Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra said that the dengue situation this year has gone from bad to worse.

The governor has already issued instructions to all related agencies to keep a close eye on the situation and increase the prevention measures. The BMA has ordered the massive deployment of larvicidal abate sand to prevent an outbreak of the deadly fever.
