4,000 THAI staff threaten to stop work

Thousands of employees working for a Thai Airways subsidiary threatened this morning to stop working unless the company improves their salary and benefits.

Samat Pantang, an employee of airline subsidiary Wingspan Services Co., Ltd., reveals one-third of the airline’s employees are still paid a daily wage and don’t receive basic employment benefits. Wingspan workers are demanding a clear structure of salary, fair monthly payments and benefits.

Employees are currently negotiating with the airline today. Workers say that they will not come to work on Tuesday if a deal can’t be struck.

Wingspan’s 4,038 employees are comprised of culinary and airport on-ground service staff. Most employees earn THB315 per day, which they are demanding be increased.

Chokchai Panyayong, the (caretaker) CEO of Thai Airways, said it’s the employees’ right to protest, but changes to their contracts are limited by the law, Khaosod reported.
