A Thai man was horrified to be charged THB400 for a single serving of mango spicy salad from a food stall at Huay Khwang Night Market.
Facebook user Korathep Kudeengam posted a photo of a bag of mango spicy salad, locally known as “yum mamuang.” The astonished description said “Holy cow! Are you trying to kill someone with that price? THB400 for a spicy salad. That’s too much!”
Another Facebook user commented that he also learned the hard way not to dine at that stall. He visited the market with a friend and ordered a mango yum from the same vendor.
“When she handed over the yum, she said it’s THB420! We were stunned, but I was like ‘What the f*ck!’ She saw that the salad was for two people, not the entire village!” Peeravith Akrasuebsakul commented under the photo.
Some commented that the price is reasonable if the vendor put fresh seafood into the yum, such as horse crabs, prawns, or oysters. However, Korathep begged to differ. He said that the salad included all those items but that THB400 is simply still too expensive.
“Every business must make a profit, but this one is taking too much profit. A street vendor selling THB400 spicy salad is shocking. We are not millionaires,” Korathep wrote.
