Video of the dramatic rescue of a 4-year-old girl left dangling by the threads of her shirt from the side of a 7-story Kanchanaburi province hospital building has gone viral today.
As the incredibly accurate caption on the Facebook post puts it: “She is the luckiest.”
The girl, a Burmese national, was visiting her father, who was staying on the seventh floor at the time of the incident on Sunday, reported Channel 3 News. A little digging from Coconuts Bangkok this afternoon confirmed the facility to be Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital in the province’s Mueang district.
Local media is reporting that she was playfully chasing a gecko, which led her to the roof, where she lost her footing and fell.
In an amazing stroke of luck, however, her shirt was caught on a protruding letter of the building’s name, which translates to: The 100 year building.
In the video, five nurses and two other hospital officials can be seen on the roof trying to pull the girl to safety. People stationed on the balcony below can also be seen attempting to spot her fall should the worst happen.
Witnesses can be heard rejoicing at the successful rescue.
“Yes! Good job,” a woman screams.
Good job, indeed. Though it all would have been moot except for a few protruding inches of Thai script. What’s in a name? Sometimes everything.
