4-year-old girl falls from school van, driver disappears

Following the release of a viral video of a kindergartener falling from a school van in Tak province yesterday, the driver who was responsible has reportedly disappeared.

The video, shared by Facebook user Wanlop Pothiratt, received over 300,000 views overnight. It shows a girl falling from a run-down van as it turns around on Mae Sot-Rim Moei Road yesterday.

The van did not stop immediately, as motorists and passersby flock to the 4-year-old girl to help her.

The kindergartener, identified as Ayae Mae, a Burmese national, suffered from a minor injury on her left arm.

Apinop Bamrungkarn, Director of Mae Sod Transport Department, visited the Mae Tao School to learn that the driver, identified as Sor Rae 41, a Burmese national, has disappeared.

The director said that the van was not registered to the school and that the student transportation service was run by a private company, which he did not identify.

The school’s principal, Set Pongsrisuwan, said Ayae Mae was not hurt as a result of the accident and she still attends school daily. He also denied the school’s involvement with the transportation service.

Officials plan to track down the driver and the van’s owner, as they also found out that the van’s license plate has not been renewed since last year, Thairath reported.
