Dozens of Thai nationals returned from Turkey last night after the death toll from this month’s devastating earthquake surged past 41,000.

A total of 36 Thais who had been living in Turkey landed on Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport on Thursday night via a Royal Thai Air Force jetliner.

Among the 36 arrivals were five men, 24 women, and three children. The flight also carried the body of 28-year-old Chamaiporn Homsantia, who was found dead in the rubble in the port city of Iskenderun days after the Feb. 6 quake. Her body will be taken to her hometown in Chaiyaphum province for funeral rites.

Another woman, Wilairat Channaul, remains unaccounted for.

Upon arrival, all of the returnees entered government-provided quarantine for a few days. Some of them reportedly appeared weak and exhausted and were being treated at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute.
