At least two people were killed when a fire broke out at the CentralWorld shopping mall Wednesday night.

Two people leaped to their deaths to escape flames on the eighth floor, according to emergency medical services. Bangkok Gov. Aswin Kwanmuang said upward of seven people were injured. Early reports that a third victim had died due to smoke inhalation proved untrue.

Update: Victims in CentralWorld blaze identified as employees

The fire started just before 6pm in an office on the eighth floor, prompting parts of the mall to be evacuated and closed. Many people were reportedly trapped in the parking lot, unable to leave.

Though the fire was brought under control, the CentralWorld shopping mall area remained swathed in smoke after 8pm.

Update: This story has been updated to reflect that only two died due to the fire.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified where the fire broke out at being in an adjacent hotel. It was in fact the mall itself.
