2nd case of mystery virus detected in Bangkok

Thailand’s Public Health Ministry today announced that a second case of a mystery coronavirus believed to have come from China has appeared in Thailand.

Five days after the first reported case, a 74-year-old Chinese woman infected with the SARS-like disease was detected Wednesday at Suvarnabhumi Airport upon arrival from Wuhan, China. Health officials said she suffered from a high fever and pneumonia.

The tourist was being treated at Bamrat Naradun Hospital in Nonthaburi province and is expected to fully recover.

On Tuesday, officials confirmed that a 61-year-old woman, also arriving from Wuhan, had been detected and placed into quarantine. Officials said there was no connection between the two cases.

It was the first confirmed case outside of China after the disease was first detected breaking out one month ago at a fish market in Wuhan. Since then, dozens have been infected and two people have died.
