2015 trial set for Phuketwan journalists

Two journalists charged by the Thai Navy with defamation will face swift justice when their trial is held – next year.

A date in the Phuket Criminal Court has been set for March 18, 2015, according to Phuketwan editor Alan Morison.

Morison and reporter Chutima Sidahathien were charged with defamation for including parts of a Reuters story on Thai officials’ complicity in trafficking of Rohingya refugees.

That Reuters’ report went on to win a Pulitzer Prize in April. Thailand’s Navy said last month it would file suit against Reuters as well.
