In 2014 Lazada says it sold THB11.4 billion with a ‘b’

As everyone knows, malls are for taking selfies, eating with friends and attending post-modern, naked performance art. Real shopping is done at home in your underwear with a cat on your lap or through a smartphone app while you’re supposed to be working.

That’s increasingly the case as Southeast Asia begins to embrace ecommerce, perhaps most notably for an outfit such as Lazada, which says it sold over THB11.4 billion (USD$350 million) in 2014.

As Tech in Asia notes, one-fifth of that was during this past December’s “holiday” season.

Lazada, which sells a little bit of everything, has operated for three years in Thailand, Indonesia,  Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.

Online sales still have a long way to go, as they account for less than 1 percent of retail transactions.
