13 dead after fire guts Chonburi nightclub

At least 13 people died while dozens more were injured after a nightclub in Chonburi province caught fire early this morning.

At around 1am today, authorities were alerted to a major fire that gutted inside the Mountain B, nightclub in Sattahip district, according to Col. Wuttipong Somjai, chief of Plutaluang Police.

Firefighters took about two hours to extinguish the fire. Officials later confirmed that 13 people – nine men and four women – were trapped inside and killed at the scene as the club had only one exit. At least 40 people were sent to hospitals for treatment.

A witness told police that he heard two explosions near a DJ booth before the fire occurred.

Police have not made any statements about the cause of the fire as they’re still in the process of investigating and questioning witnesses.

#ChonburiPubFire has been a top trending hashtag on Twitter in Thailand since this morning.
