10-year Thai passports ready next month: consular affairs

Embossed signatures, biometric data and pages stamped with images of Siamese glory? Yes, the new Thai passport will be that cool.

The most important thing about Thailand’s redesigned passports is that they will live twice as long – valid 10 years instead of five – the Consular Affairs Department announced yesterday as it revealed its features.

The new passports will be ready to issue next month, according to Chatri Archjananun, department director.

They offer better security features for both holder and nation, such as an embossed signature and biometric data. They also include key historical sites printed on every page, according to Chatri, to “educate” their holders, especially young Thais.

While the main consular office on Chaeng Wattana Road and passport office at MRT Khlong Toei have closed for renovation, other passport offices are stationed throughout the capital and country. To obtain or renew a passport, make an appointment online or call 02-572-8442.
