A Thai woman was among those to die in the massive earthquake in Turkey as the death toll crested 12,000.
The Thai Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, has confirmed that a 28-year-old Thai woman was found dead in the rubble in the port city of Iskenderun. The woman was identified as Chamaiporn Homsantia of Chaiyaphum province.
The Thai embassy has notified Chamaiporn’s family and is working with Turkish authorities to bring her body to Thailand.

Around 30 Thai nationals in Turkey have been displaced by the quake and are taking refuge in government-provided shelters. None of the 30 others was hurt.
The Thai government will give financial aid to Turkey and Syria after the two countries were struck by two devastating earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.5 magnitudes on Monday. Most recently, the death toll has surpassed 12,000.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said he was “deeply saddened” by the news and instructed officials to provide humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria.
Thailand will donate THB5 million (US$150,000) to Turkey and THB1 million (US$30,000) to Syria. It will also send rescue teams and medical workers to the two countries, according to Asi Mamanee, director of the ministry’s department of Europe affairs.
