1 million counterfeit goods to get pulped

Nearly a million bags, clothes, cosmetics, electronics and other fake goods will go to the grinder on Thursday.

A longstanding annual tradition from a nostalgic time when piracy topped concerns among Thailand’s international peers, the destruction of counterfeit goods by the Department of Intellectual property will include stuff seized in more than 3,400 individual cases of copyright infringement.

They are worth an estimated THB3.7 billion. Some copyright holders will participate.

According to state media, the department has already apprehended 58 violators, filed 93 lawsuits and seized more than 21,000 items around the country since January 1.
