Young German rescued from cliff at Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park

A 20-year-old German tourist was rescued today from a seaside cliff today after spending the night lost in a national park in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Michael Heck-Roth was found hours after local fisherman Boonsong Sangchareonsei, 39, spotted the German atop the cliff shouting and waving for help. The helpful fisherman alerted authorities to the disoriented man.

Heck-Roth, who was dehydrated and exhausted, said he walked up the mountain to check out the view but got lost on the way down.

He was sent to hospital for a medical evaluation.

Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park chief Pongsathorn Promkhuntod said tourists are supposed to notify staff before walking up the mountain and urged all visitors to strictly comply with safety regulations. Tourists can also request officials to accompany them.

Pongsathorn added that the park would install a sign in English to inform foreign tourists of the regulations, Bangkok Post and Khaosod reported.
