Yay or Nay? Luk Thung version of “Lovin’ You” takes web by storm (VIDEO)

This luk thung version of 70s classic hit “Lovin’ You” sung by The Voice Thailand’s contestant has become the most-discussed item on the internet after it got her voted off the show on Sunday.

Fans of the popular reality show were stunned when the 20-year-old luk thung singer Roongrat “Kaimook” Mengpanich, who had been a favourite to win season 4, was kicked out of the competition after receiving the fewest votes from home.

Many blamed her coach Joey Boy for not playing to her talent in singing Thai country music and making her choose an English-language song instead, far away from Khaimook’s usual style.

Renowned Thai musician and rapper Joey Boy had to apologize on Facebook yesterday after Khaimook’s cover became a hot topic online as the video reached 1 million views from those who loved or hated the version.

“First, I’d like to apologize to the fans of my team. I insist I do my best for each episode. I personally think every show that we do, they are good,” Joey Boy wrote.

“But for the unsuccessful shows that don’t please the audience, you can blame me, especially the latest one by Khaimook. It was just me who wondered what it’d be like if a talented luk thung singer with a heavenly voice like Khaimook sang an English-language song in her own style and her accent.”

“If a country girl wants to sing a farang song, does she need to have an accent like an English native speaker?” he added.
