American indie dance duo YACHT (sometimes stylized even more obnoxiously as Y∆CHT), plays exuberant dance music renowned both for its popularity and divisiveness.
At its live shows, YACHT expends more calories-per-second than your average Olympic gymnast; in its passingly twee, synthesized singles, the group lists between sounding like electro cheerleaders and sounding like third graders playing around with drum machines.
Since signing to James Murphy’s DFA Records in 2009, YACHT has increased its international profile and further indulged its already significant penchant for histrionics. In the past, YACHT shows have entailed the use of confetti, leotards, PowerPoint presentations and (of course) a whole lot of jumping around.
Indie rock acts this solidly in the midst of their upswing are a rare sight in Bangkok, so YACHT’s May 13 show should be one for the books. Plus, it would be a hard sell to convince me that the people who made the following videos aren’t going to have something interesting to give an audience.
