Women’s Day is tomorrow, and though Bangkok is still crawling back to life, there are a number of events planned and things to do for those who want to do more than just tweet a hashtag.
Ther: Thailand’s all-women craft brewers meet respect abroad, trouble at home
From art exhibitions to comedy and food and drinking, here are a few things going in Bangkok to celebrate women’s achievements and push for equality. We’ll add more as they emerge.
Free Pads for All
Through art exhibitions, talks and more, the opposition Pheu Thai Party plans to challenge biases against female bodies and menstruation. Campaigning for the government to provide free sanitary products for all women, #BreaktheBias will feature works by three female artists – illustrator Juli Baker and Summer, filmmaker Prim Issaree and electro-R&B star Pyra – as well as panel discussions touching on sex, menstruation, and more.
The exhibition will be held tomorrow through the end of the month at ThinkLab cafe located at Pheu Thai Party headquarters near MRT Phetchaburi. More details are available online.
Women mixing things up
Seven women bartenders from across Bangkok will take over a rooftop bar above the Banyan Tree Hotel. They will take turns concocting their special drinks throughout the week. THB100 from every drink sold will go to the Hal Way Home for Women Foundation, a shelter that looks after women undergoing rehabilitation.
The event runs today through Sunday at Vertigo bar atop the Banyan Tree Hotel off South Sathorn Road. More information is available online.
‘Unspoken Actions’
Video and performance artist Kawita Vatanajyankur will celebrate the underappreciated labor of women through a video installation and performance piece Unspoken Actions.
Kawita will perform live at 1pm tomorrow at Craft on the ground floor of the Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok. Those who miss her performance tomorrow still can visit the place to see her works installed all this month. The Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok hotel is located between sois Langsuan and Tonson and can be reached from BTS Chit Lom.
Food 4 thought @ FCCT
The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand, or FCCT, today launches a series of panel discussions on gender equality for sustainability, Thailand’s beauty industry and politics, and LGBT+ rights. Check out the venue’s events here. The FCCT is located on the Penthouse floor of the Maneeya Center, which is linked by skywalk to BTS Chit Lom.
Pizzas with a purpose
THB65 from every margherita pizza sold will go to educate and home at-risk girls in the north. Tomorrow only, Peppina will donate the profits from sales of its margherita pizzas to Friends of Thai Daughters, a group that works to prevent child-trafficking in northern Thailand.
The Italian eatery is located on Soi Sukhumvit 33 a short drive from BTS Phrom Phong.
Indian movie screening
The Embassy of India will screen a highly acclaimed Indian film by director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, whose film is a tribute to women, their dreams and power. Part family drama and sports tale, Panga follows a former Kabbadi athlete who is now a mother trying to overcome stereotypes against women.
The film will screen at 6pm on Sunday at Lido Connect. English and Thai subtitles will be provided. Entry is free but advance bookings are required via email indianprograms@gmail.com.
Lady laughs
Sad news, expat comedian Olivia Gilmore will return to her home in ‘Merica for good. Good news, she will perform her last show in Bangkok later this month. Go and see her for some laughs, and shed farewell tears at The Hive Thonglor. Entry is THB250 when purchased in advance and THB400 at the door. More details are available online.

Four branches of Soho Pizza will hand out free “gooey” brownies to women who buy pizzas tomorrow only. The four branches are located at Sukhumvit Soi 11, The Commons Saladaeng, Thonglor, and The Mall Ngamwongwan. What’s in the brownies? We’re not so sure.
