HE IS NOT AN ANIMAL: The Elephant Man

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”26672″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”667″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”400″}}]]

Classic story of a man made sideshow freak and the doctor who gave him a new lease on life. The inspiring true tale of the Elephant Man was made famous by the David Lynch film, but whether you’ve seen that or not, Friday is your opportunity to see it performed live by the London’s Performance Exchange Theatre Company. Hosted by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT), the production also includes a buffet dinner. Reserve a ticket by calling 02-652-0580 or emailing info@fccthai.com

7 pm. THB 350 with buffet dinner. Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand, Maneeya Centre. BTS Ploenchit.

ECLECTIC HOUSE: Light My Soul

One of Bangkok’s most established dance pads for good old house music is coming up with a new monthly event to pack its three-storey space. Light My Soul at Tapas is headed up by DJ Alex Fischer – you may recognize him as the groovy French guy with the thick-rimmed glasses often behind the decks at Oskar Bistro – with guest DJs and resident drummer Num T-Bone banging away to the beats. Expect to hear a blend of electronic, Motown and ’80s hits.

10 pm. THB 250 including one drink. Tapas, Silom 4. BTS Sala Daeng Station, MRT Sukhumvit Station.

HEAVIER BASS: Phatfunk

Phatfunk is going back to the basics this Friday with a residents-only night. But don’t expect the same old tricks – DJs Azek, Delorean, Instinct and Orawan are not only bagging a new set of sounds, the crew is also renting out an extra bass system to shake Glow Nightclub’s core. Caution: you may want to invest in a quality pair of earplugs!

10 pm. THB 300 including one drink. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke Station, MRT Sukhumvit.

Saturday

GET HYSTERICAL: Comedy For Flood Relief

Here’s a giggle for a good cause. Local comedians Tristan Botly, Leo Soares Smith, Lucas Sever, Daniel Coleman and Grem Wood are banding together to tell some jokes. It’s THB600 at the door, but all the proceeds go to the Thai Red Cross for helping flood relief. They’ll also be accepting clothing, dried and canned food items and diapers to also be delivered to the charity. Cover includes free snacks and a cocktail (but our recommendation is to have a few because let’s face it, it seems to make things funnier).

8 pm. THB 600 including one drink and snacks. Overground Bar & Café, Sukhumvit 22. BTS Phrom Pong.

DANCE DANCE: DJ Whebba

The next in a string of international DJs steadily hitting Q Bar as of late is Rodolfo Wehbba straight out of São Paolo, Brazil. Wehbba, a former dentist, started spinning a decade ago and has since played at legendary Brazilian clubs like D-Edge, Pacha and Vibe. If you’re also looking for a little after-hours entertainment, DJ Wehbba will play one more set at Bash after wrapping up Q Bar with a techno bow.

10 pm. THB 500 including two free drinks with Facebook RSVP, THB 600 and one free drink without. Q Bar, Sukhumvit 11. BTS Nana.

CULTURE SOAK: Toot Yung Art Center

Discover dreamscapes painted by Pakitsilp Varamissara at an opening reception featuring new work by the Chiang Mai-born artist. Alternately traditional and modern, three decades of Pakitsilp’s work were featured last year at the National Gallery, An exhibition of his latest works opens Saturday through Dec. 8 at the recently reopened Toot Yung Art Center.
