Weekend Warrior: Nov. 15

Welcome to the Weekend Warrior, wherein we lay the cards of outrageous fortune out on the cigarette-burned velvet table, but you choose which to turn over.

BLUES BASH: Apoteka One Year Anniversary

It’s been a year since Apoteka opened to become one of Bangkok’s favorite spots for enjoying blues while imbibing. While it’s a genre known for verging on the melancholy, there’s nothing depressing about this weekend’s birthday festivities: lots of live music and free eats. On Friday and Saturday evening, local acts such as Danny California’s Blues Allstars and the Soi Dogs are throwing down their grooviest licks and riffs. Rounding out the celebrations is a free gourmet BBQ on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm, with mellow acoustic and soul plucking well into the evening.

Friday at 9 pm, Saturday at 8:30 pm, Sunday from 2 to 8 pm. Free entry. Apoteka, Sukhumvit 11. BTS Nana.

CHARITABLE ART ‘N’ FUNK: (The End of) Rainy Season Sessions

The grey skies are officially few and far between, and so WTF’s aptly named musical series is also wrapping up. Christopher Wise takes up the final session with his far-flung funk, and the audience can enjoy pay-what-you-want Brew Dog beers with all proceeds going to Typhoon Haiyan relief. If you feel like hitting WTF early, there will also be an opening reception at 6 pm for Oaza Oasis, a product design exhibition from a Croatian collective.

9:30 pm. Free entry. WTF, Sukhumvit 51. BTS Thong Lor.

WICKED BEATS: Future Sounds of House

Phatfunk’s DJ Instinct brings nothing but the sickest trip-hop, future-jazz and bass to the Overground Café for Future Sounds of House. In this round, Instinct is joined by special guest Andy Newman, the Ibiza alum who’s garnered a fine reputation for playing to crowds in Koh Phangan. The Overground, a coffee joint by day and watering hole by night, takes pride in its cool but laid-back ambience. Women can get sauced on four free cocktails before 10 pm.

9 pm. Free entry. Overground Bar & Café, Sukhumvit 22. BTS Phrom Pong.

COME TOGETHER: Extended Play pres. All of Us

The party promoters from Extended Play have rounded up a few familiar faces from Glow Nightclub family for a one-off, jamboree gig. “The more, the merrier” is the philosophy behind this one, and we couldn’t agree more. It’s a rare opportunity to sample the many tastes of Bangkok’s underground as DJs Aardy, The Outsider, Sunju Hargun, Jaydubb and Coran take turns on the decks.

10 pm. THB 350 including one drink. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke Station, MRT Sukhumvit.

Saturday

REAL DEAL: Moodwax

Any electronic music junkie will tell you how seldom it is to hear a DJ spin his own tracks. That’s what makes Moodwax the darling of Bangkok underground – not only does he play a killer live set, but he’s also a wizard in the production chair. Expect to hear new original beats and edits of beloved favorites. Don’t forget supporting DJs Kimball Collins and N.I.C.K.

10 pm. THB 250 including one drink. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke Station, MRT Sukhumvit.

Sunday

Bangkok’s Best Loy Kratong

If you’re planning on floating your kratong all night long, Viva & Aviv is the perfect launch. The riverside restaurant and bar is celebrating the Thai holiday by handing out a free kratong and glass of wine to its guests. For those with a romantic intention, there will also be a special menu including grilled oysters, Hamachi tartar and Australian waygu tomahawk.

6 pm. Free entry. Viva & Aviv, River City, Charoen Krung 24.
