Friday

VIVA MEXICO!: Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Get your sombreros ready for a guacamole-packed weekend at BeerVault, in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.  Executive chef Pornchai Butipunka is cooking up a Mexican feast of quesadillas and burritos at only THB 250 a plate, to be washed down with tequila (obviously) at THB 100 a shot. Saturday evening’s tip of the sombrero comes with piñata-smashing and live performances of Mexican fiesta music.

Friday to Monday. BeerVault, Sukhumvit 15. BTS Nana

MIXED MEDIA: Asian Invasion

Curated by Very Kind Invention, this eclectic smorgasbord features everything from collages to photographs, paintings and more. The work comes from Taiwanese, Japanese and Thai artists, including ceramicist Hsian Jung with his unearthly found object sculptures.

Friday at 6 pm opening party, Saturday and Sunday at 12 pm to 7 pm craft shop. Soy Sauce Factory, Charoenkrung Road 24

ABANDONED ART PARTY: The Other Room

An abandoned guesthouse is about to be renovated as a new theatre space – but first, 26 local artists are given a crack at taking over the walls. In partnership with Democrazy Theatre Studio, this exhibition blends together multiple performance art styles (theatre, dance, and film and motion graphic) for an unpredictable and provocative evening.

Friday, Saturday at 11:15 pm. THB 450 including one drink. Thong Lor Art Space, Sukhumvit 55. BTS Thong Lor

ZONES-A-GO-GO: Move a Bar

Shopping, music, street art and more at MOVEaBAR.

Saturday

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK: Stoned in Siam

Local Thai bands take on stoner rock in four performances ranging from reggae to electronic, experimental and metal. With cheap beers and the laidback atmosphere of the Overstay, a hostel-cum-art space and bar (which was by the way, was once a shophouse and brothel), die-hard rock can’t go wrong here.

10 pm. THB 150. Overstay, Charan Sanit Wong Soi 40

DUBSTEP DARLING: Matt-U at Dubway Sessions

Fish’s dance floor welcomes dubstep heavy-hitter Matt-U from Budapest, Hungary.
He’s a big producer in the bass scene, best known for his regular play on Skream & Benga’s weekly BBC Radio One Show. Warm-up set by drum and bass femme fatale DJ Orawan and residents Dragon and Sinamon.

10 pm. THB 350 including one drink. Cosmic Café (Fish), Royal City Avenue

HANGOVER SHOTS: Mao Mak Mag 2

If there’s any event this weekend that promises a sore liver and bad decisions, it’s the launch of Graham Meyer’s photography exhibition Mao Mak Mag 2. This handmade zine features inebriated snapshots taken from trolling around Bangkok – we’re talking everything even the most obnoxious hangovers from unflattering angles. There will be 200 printed copies up for grabs, and the rest plastered up on Jam’s walls. There is only one request: dip into the photo booth after the Lamai Thai rum open bar, where sober snapshots are strictly verboten.

8 pm. Jam, Charoen Rat Soi 1. BTS Surasak

Sunday

SIFTING THROUGH: Jam Garage Sale

For those who emerge from Jam with vitality in tact, head back again on Sunday for an all-day garage sale starting at 12 pm. The market is completely DIY, which means anyone can come sell with their own racks, tables and price tags. Look out for live music performances too, including reggae four-piece Sticky Rice and shoegaze group Neuter Lover.

4 pm to 12 am. Free entry. Jam, Charoen Rat Soi 1. BTS Surasak
