RED AND GOLD: Extravagant Chinese New Year at Maggie Choo’s

To celebrate the coming Year of the Horse, Maggie Choo’s is busting out the Chinese hats and finger traps for a cabaret-style soirée. According to the Facebook event, partygoers can expect live music, dragons, horses … and midgets on dragons and horses? In Bangkok, anything is possible, so get out your most extravagant evening dress and be prepared for confetti showers.

WHITE OUT: Sensation Wicked Wonderland

Laser lights, Heineken stains on see-through white shirts and Bangkok’s hi-so elite – yup, it’s definitely time for Sensation. The global electronica party series started in Amsterdam drops back into Thailand, after last year’s sold-out debut brimming with Thai celebrities, A-listers and well, lots of regular people. The latest event “Wicked Wonderland” runs with the theme of fairytales and magical mystery (yes, the ladyboys are getting mighty excited for this one). While tickets have been sold out for months, a few are still floating around online.
9 pm. Dress code: white, only white. BITEC Bangna. BTS Bang Na.
ACCRA TO KHON KAEN: Isaan Dancehall: Eastern Connections

It’s been a few months since the last Isaan Dancehall, and we’ve been jonesing for a plunky mor lam and dancehall ever since. The self-proclaimed “afro-asian soundclash” broke serious ground last year with a string of shows outside of Bangkok in Japan (Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto), Amsterdam and Hamburg. Get ready for a little likay shakedown and a new Isaan dancehall venue: Grease’s third floor “Case 49” art gallery and bar.
9 pm. THB 350 including one Yadong shot. Grease, Sukhumvit 49, third floor. BTS Thong Lor.

This Thai-language comedy from Thammasat University’s drama club tells the quirky story of the 9 to 5 employees of a skin whitening company. When a sacred statue mysteriously goes missing, the team has to work together before their boss returns.
