Welcome to the Weekend Warrior, wherein we abandon our diets, unquit smoking, fall off the wagon, give up becoming a “morning person,” and learn to accept our miserably happy selves.

FIGURATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY: Tales on Skins
This solo exhibition from American photographer Cameron Wolf is a series of dark, haunting images like painted and tattooed-up bodies and rituals from Thai culture. Wolf’s latest work, with its heavy message of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, was inspired by his time volunteering with SWING, a local organization that helps male and transgender sex workers and has most recently been featured at the 2012 International AIDS in Washington, DC. All proceeds from sales go towards giving back to SWING.

DETROIT TECHNO: Disco Robot’s Freaky All-Stars feat. Alton Miller

Hot on the heels of Studio 54 legend John Morales on New Years Eve, Disco Robot is delivering yet another big name from way back – Alton Miller. Besides spinning briefly with Deee-lite in the ’90s (“Groove is in the Heart” anyone?), Miller is best known as a pioneer of techno in Detroit, which is now widely regaled as the genre’s birthplace. He opened one of the city’s first full-on underground clubs in 1988, and has spent the last few years touring the global party circuit. Check out our interview with Alton Miller here.

Street artist, drum and bass DJ, reality TV maverick, soap opera star and Bond villain – Goldie’s got to be the hardest-hustling guy in British show biz. But that’s not stopping the icon and his gleaming set of grills from a quick swoop into Bangkok to rock Glow Nightclub’s comfy dance floor. Coupled up with support from Phatfunk founder DJ Azek, this is a sure-fire evening of deadly jungle and breakbeats.

When we think of making perfume, Patrick Süskind’s creeptastic novel is of course the first thing that comes to mind. Finally, here’s an event that brings the sophisticated air back to blending scents. Thavibu Gallery, teaming up with PerfumersWorld, has put together this workshop teaching the basics of essential oils and creating haute-couture perfumes. Guests will learn the difference between notes from patchouli to oakmoss, and even get to try a hand at making their own unique whiff.
3 pm. Free entry. Thavibu Gallery. BTS Surasak.

GREAT OUTDOORS: Concert in the Park

It’s time to get out the bamboo mats and plastic cups to head down to Lumpini Park – the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra is back for another season of free concerts in the park. This popular winter tradition is a chance to sunbathe to the tune of multi-cultural music from Thailand all the way to Broadway. We suggest hitting 7/11 beforehand for Thai beers and munchies. And making sure it isn’t canceled due to that whole social unrest thing.
Kolours Two Year Anniversary/Season Opening

Carrying over Sunday morning’s hangover all the way to Monday should be no problem, with Kolours’ season opener. Bangkok’s flagship open-air sunset party is back with BBQ and electronic beats in the sweltering Thai sun, but this year promises to up the summer festival vibe with more international DJs and record label launch this year. While the daytime bash ends at 10 pm as the sun goes down, the token after-party continues down at Glow Nightclub.
1 pm. 500 THB. Location is a secret, check Facebook two days before event.
