Welcome to the Weekend Warrior, wherein the grievances will be aired, the feats of strength demonstrated and the rest of us discover a bounty of Festivus miracles.
Friday
SHAKE YOUR SHELL: Turtle Giant Live in Bangkok
It’s the Bangkok debut of Turtle Giant, the smooth and psychedelic new wave rockers hailing from São Paulo, Brazil. The trio, now based in Macau, is surprisingly quite underground despite some catchy singles on YouTube and a performance at the SxSW festival in Austin earlier this year. So expect this show to be an intimate, no-frills affair at Play Yard, the funky retro venue tucked into Lad Prao, with killer opening acts – Pennsylvanian folk singer Shane Palko and local blues-indie act Count the Thief.
9 pm. THB 500. Play Yard, Lad Prao Soi 8. MRT Lad Prao.
SUNDOWN SHOPPING: Twilight Market and Christmas Market

Bangkok’s Farmer’s Market continues its massive take over, wrapping up 2013 with a special evening shopping edition on Friday and a Christmas market over the weekend. The Twilight Market runs from 5 pm until midnight, with all the local artisan eats and treats that have made the Farmer’s Market such a hit, but also including craft beers, alcoholic bevies and live music this time around. If you miss out on Friday, a more hectic but equally satisfying option would be to head to the courtyard of K-Village on Saturday or Sunday for the action. We suggest going early, as the extra special fresh goodies tend to sell out over the lunch hour.
Friday at 5 pm to 12 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. K-Village, Sukhumvit 26. BTS Phrom Pong.
FREE STUFF: Leo T Shirt Party Season 2
We like freebies. I mean, who doesn’t like freebies? Leo’s T Shirt party was so popular the first time around, the beer company is rocking out again with tiger-print tees, a fashion show, and the real pièce de résistance – a performance from Thailand’s most beloved indie rock band, Getsunova. If you don’t mind a few screaming stalker-fans, it’s all going down at Cloud 47, one of Silom’s most buzzed about rooftop venues.
6 pm. Free entry. Cloud 47, United Center, Silom Road. BTS Sala Daeng Station, MRT Silom.
Saturday
REGGAE MAN: Tropical Dope with Prince Fatty

UK reggae royalty, Prince Fatty, is throwing down the afrobeats and cumbia at Tropical Dope on Saturday. Fatty is well known for breathing new life into the stagnant reggae scene through his remixes of classic hip hop tracks like “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and “Gin and Juice.” With support from Omar and the Horseman, look out for high-energy samba and dancehall, with a touch of Miami Beach circa 1970.
9 pm. THB 400 including one drink. Rockademy, A Square, Sukhumvit 26. BTS Phrom Pong.

Again, free stuff. The Sofitel Sukhumvit is looking to tempt ladies into its signature bar with a new Saturday party dubbed Wonder Women. Chock up four free drinks and tapas plates from THB 100. Not a bad way to get Saturday off to an unsteady start.
9:30 pm. Free entry. Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, Sukhumvit 13-15. BTS Nana.

From Bangkok’s nifty whiskey and cigar joint comes a new weekly event, chilled-out Bossa nova on Saturdays. Performed live by the Tessa Garcia Quartet, this fusion of swing and suave jazz is the real deal – nothing like the lame cover CDs on repeat at malls and two-bit Thai cafés, so you should really just check it out for yourself. Did we mention cocktails for the ladies are two-for-one all night?
9 pm. Free entry and two free cocktails for ladies. Whisgars, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke Station, MRT Sukhumvit.
Saturday & Sunday
