With hundreds of cosmetic products popping up every week, it can be a bit disorienting to step up to a brand-name counter alone and browse. Recently I did just that and somehow found myself fending off a ladyboy saleswoman who was peddling neon lipstick that looks horrible on my skin tone.
Never again.
Perhaps because of similar incidents, most Thai women prefer to do A LOT of their research on the Internet where, within the cozy confines of our browsers, we can seek out those who know all. I speak, of course, of online fashion “gurus.”
Beauty gurus review countless products a year, and many even walk you through makeup 101 step-by-step. If you’re bored of the baby pink lip-gloss and brown eye shadow you have been wearing since 2007 or if you’re just scared of the saleslady, here are the top five beauty gurus to follow:
1. Pearypie -396K followers

ands down the hottest guru of the moment is Pearypie, a St. Martins graduate and regular makeup-artist at London’s Fashion week. Pearypie inspires Thai women with makeup and fashion that cannot be seen everyday on the streets of Bangkok. Her reviews revolve around makeup swatches, many of which use bold colors. While many of us might not be able to pull off her more ambitious makeup experiments, her gorgeous facial features allow her to effortlessly look good in combinations like blue lipstick and pink eyebrows.

2. Momay – 242K followers
Momay was a Thai pop star in the 1990s but today she is best known as the host of Momay Pla Plearn, a Youtube beauty show. Her lively personality and sense of humor guarantee that you’ll enjoy watching her demonstrate wearable make-up looks for each occasion. Whether you want to go for a party girl look or a no-smudge rainy season look, Momay has you covered.
3. Ying Yae – 265K followers
Ying Yae used to be a “pretty” or a presenter at promotional events before transforming herself into a full-time blogger. Her popularity owes to her energy and sense of humor that drives her to do funny things in front of the camera regardless of how crazy she looks. Her “pretty’s secrets” show, which instructs us normals on how to have flawless skin like a pretty, has been shared all over the interwebs. Ying Yae also shocked the Thai beauty community by posting a review of her breast surgery, which included before and after pictures.
4. Erk-Erk – 113K followers
Erk has been the on-stage talent at several beauty contests so we’re lucky that she now blogs all of her makeup, skin care, health and lifestyle secrets. Her network erk-erk.com is a forum for women to explore beauty concerns and catch up on what’s hot. Although she has over 100K followers, Erk is well-known for always responding. Erk-Erk won Thailand Shopping & Beauty Blog Award last year.
5. PuPe So Sweet – 50K followers
The only man on this list is PuPe So Sweet or “the skin care master,” who is well-known for his his honest, well-written reviews on skin care products. In a recent interview he said that he is just an ordinary person who likes to experiment with new skin care products and report his experiences. After blogging for over three years, PuPe has written a pocket book and many skin care brands now seek his endorsement.
