Arts and happenings are returning to the city, giving events writers something to cover again.
And with everything so dire for so long, we’re overdue for some humor. And who better to help us laugh than the Australians?
Cartoons and comic strips from more than 30 Australian artists will come together for nearly two weeks at Australian Comics – Promoting Culture through Visual Storytelling at a public downtown gallery.
The 33 artists are a mix of prolific illustrators and cartoonists as well as emerging talents. Fans of graphic novels and cartoons may recognize the work of veteran cartoonists Bruce Mutard, manga-style artist Queenie Chan, and Zen Pencils’ blog artist Gavin Aung Than.
The opening reception will take place Tuesday afternoon with a panel discussion. Meet Australian cartoonist Ben Mitchell in the flesh as well as exhibition curator Jakub Mazerant. The panel will also be joined by Bangkok-based Nicolas Verstappen, a Chulalongkorn University professor and author of The Art of Thai Comics, and Thai cartoonist Thanis Weerasakwong, best known under his moniker Sa-Ard.
The exhibition, organized by the Illustrate Your Life creative agency and Embassy of Australia, will run Tuesday through March 27 in a gallery on the third floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, which is reachable by skywalk from BTS National Stadium.
