THAIFEX-Anuga Asia, the region’s largest food and beverage trade fair, is taking place in Bangkok at the end of May, but don’t fret if you can’t make it over to Thailand in person — this year, there are multiple extensive virtual components so that everyone can take full advantage of everything that the event has to offer.

This year’s fair will include 1200 exhibitors, 2500 high-profile buyers, 11 food segments, and approximately 40,000 visitors, making it a can’t-miss event for buyers, sellers, and entrepreneurs across the F&B industry.

With the theme of “Hybrid Edition” in mind, organizers have incorporated several digital elements across the event. An online networking platform will allow attendees to contact and network with each other before the start of the fair. Online booths and buyer meetings will also be available for exhibitors and buyers who wish to connect remotely. Additionally, several parts of the event will be live-streamed through the official THAIFEX-Anuga Asia Facebook page, including sessions from the much-anticipated Future Food Experience stage.

Several of the events that will be livestreamed are already looking noteworthy, such as “Innova’s Top Ten Trends for 2022,” where specialists Innova Market Insights will identify the upcoming F&B trends that they believe are the future of the industry, especially in the context of a post-COVID-19 economy. Another interesting event is “SOS Presents: The Road to Zero Food Waste,” where members of Scholars of Sustenance (SOS), Thailand’s first food rescue foundation, will discuss ways that industry members can help reduce food waste and improve food equity. And lastly, there’s “Plant-based — the Future of Food,” a panel discussion where CEO’s of different plant-based food product companies will discuss the current landscape and future trajectory of plant-based products, as well as the various technologies, limitations, and investment opportunities that they’ve encountered when it comes to dealing with alternative protein and plant-based products.

The coolest part of the virtual component, in our opinion, is the newly-launched interactive THAIFEX VTS (Virtual Trade Show) website. Once registered for the fair, users can access everything from travel and accommodation guides for event attendees who want to travel to Thailand, to exhibition lists and 360-degree virtual tours for categories such as Sweets & Confectionery, Coffee & Tea, and Frozen Food — which is pretty much exactly how the in-person event will also be laid out. Users will also be granted access to the Webboard and a Business Matching function.

This year’s fair will see the return of the popular Hosted Buyer Programme and the Priority Buyer Club. Participants — or “Hosted Buyers” — will be given the exclusive opportunity to select and schedule meetings ahead of time with exhibitors that they would like to connect with, either onsite or via the online business matching platform.

Buoyed by the positive feedback from past years, event organizers are excited as they head into this year’s fair. Wendy Lim, General Manager of Food Tradeshow, Koelnmesse Singapore, said: “In the last Hosted Buyer Programme, our buyers seized up US$1.7million worth of purchases from new suppliers alone. And they have also forecasted US$27 million in sales revenue for the next financial year. We are expecting no less this year! With 2,500 top buyers from companies like BGF Retail and Circle K who have already registered, we anticipate some exciting news to unfold at this year’s event!”

But that’s not everything! This year, THAIFEX-Anuga Asia will also include a brand new segment called THAIFEX-Anuga Future Food Market which will feature ground-breaking products and services that could serve as innovative blueprints for the future of the industry. The Future Food Market zone will be divided into four categories: Nutrition, Food and Beverage Technologies, Sustainable Solutions, and Alternative Ingredients. Products and services that will be presented under this segment include alternative F&B products (think food products that are plant-based or made with all-natural ingredients), zero-waste and sustainable packaging products, and digital platforms and innovations (such as augmented and virtual reality technology) that will revolutionize the F&B industry.

In total, the fair will have six different “Special Shows” across the four days. Besides the Future Food Market, there will also be a Startup zone, an Organic Market, Halal Market, Taste Innovation Show, and a Trend Zone.
THAIFEX-Anuga Asia 2022 will take place from May 24-28 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. On May 24-27, opening hours are from 10am-6pm. On May 28, opening hours are from 10am-8pm. Registration is already open for both exhibitors and buyers.
