Not one, not two, but three Thai school bands have landed top prizes at this year’s World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade, Netherlands.
The three bands from Thailand scored the top three slots in the “Show” category of the “World Division” at the 17th annual WMC.
The Bangkok based 158-member Surasakmontree Brass Band grabbed the highest honor, winning a gold medal with a score of 93.7%. The band beat out more than 20 competitors from around the world including Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and USA.
Suranaree Wittaya School landed the 2nd place silver aware while Pattaya City School snagged bronze honors.
Bands from around the world flock to the annual competition. This year drew 16,000 competitors and 254 youth bands from 28 different countries, reports the Bangkok Post.
