Thai men camp out overnight at Siam Center to buy limited edition ‘NMD R1’ shoes

Hundreds of Adidas fans camped overnight outside two shoe stores in the Siam Square area to get their hands on new Adidas sneakers which went on sale today.

The hunt for the limited edition Adidas NMD R1 shoes began last night after Adidas canceled last month’s sale, refusing to open their Siam Center store due to chaos wrought by obsessed buyers outside their shop.

Last night the company had to hand out queue cards to customers, who were mostly young men, and urged them to maintain orderliness.

Nitipong Lertpanyakul, 25, was the first customer at Siam Center to try on and buy the NMD R1 this morning after he waited since 1pm yesterday.

The Carnival shoe store in Siam Square also began selling the shoes today where there were also hundreds of Thai men camping out overnight.

Approximately 400 NMD R1 shoes will be sold in Thailand. The shoe is described as a “gem of the Adidas design team,” combining design and functionality in its three models Micro Pacer, Rising Star and Boston Super.

The shoes cost THB4,990, according to the official price listed on the Adidas Thailand website.
