Teen opera singer a ‘Rising Star’ on American TV show

The teen winner of a popular talent show will take her act to the United States as a contestant on a new television singing show.

Maneepat “Myra” Molloy, 16, the winner of Thailand’s Got Talent Season 1, has been selected as one of the nine contestants for “Rising Star,” a new U.S. contest which premiered Sunday.

Myra, a Thai-American singer from Bangkok, moved with her family to Los Angeles to pursue her big dream as a singer there  after making her splash in Thailand.

On the first episode of the show, Myra stunned the audience with her beautiful singing voice as she performed the Italian classic Con Te Partiro. She earned votes from Brad Paisley and Ke$ha, two of the contest’s three judges. Ke$ha, who appeared more than a little hungover, said she was impressed with Myra because she personally didn’t know how to sing in Italian when she was 16.

Whatever that may mean, the 16-year-old doll face will move forward into the next round.
