Survey: 51% of Thais say their partner prefers playing with phone over sex

A whopping 51 percent of Thai survey respondents say their partners prefer playing with their smartphones over some sexy time, while 28 percent say they consider leaving their partners every single day, according to a relationship index released earlier this month.

The index, conducted by Prudential insurance company, explores the strength of relationships of respondents in Asia-Pacific. Out of ten surveyed countries, Thailand ranks 5th place on the relationship score chart.

Here’s how all the countries stack up.

Based on over 5,000 interviews with people aged 25-55 in the participating countries, the average relationship score for the region is 68/100. This means that, in Asia, on average, people’s primary relationship fulfills only 68 percent of their desired relationship needs.

Besides preferring phones over sex, another interesting find about Thailand is that locals put a priority on laughter when it comes what makes successful relationships. Unsurprisingly, money is the biggest source of arguments for couples in Thailand and the entire region.

Many adults in Asia feel that they could fall back on family to provide for them if things go wrong. Almost two-thirds (66 percent) of respondents said that they would be able to rely on their parents for financial support in an emergency. This figure is highest among adults in Thailand (78 percent).

Regionally, couples in Vietnam are the most satisfied with their relationships, boasting a score of 83/100, and only 8 percent of respondents in that country consider leaving their partners.

Meanwhile, the most affectionate country in the region is the Philippines with 87 percent of people saying “I love you” to their partners every week, comparing to an average of 57 percent of people in the region.
