With a bunny-eared young heroine, Alex Face has risen Thailand’s most-recognized street artists.

After spending lockdown this year at home with the 11-year-old daughter who inspired his iconic character, Patcharapol “Alex Face” Tangruen is bringing Monument of Hope, a collection of new paintings and large sculptures, to a gallery in the Sathorn area.

The 39-year-old muralist spent the lockdown months painting to pass the time. Flowers ordered by his wife brought to his mind the impressionist water lily landscapes of Claude Monet, and from there he began painting luminous flowers bursting from the head of his signature character.

The three-eyed, bunny-eared girl, named Mardi, appears again alongside the paintings seated and standing in two bronze sculptures

Monument of Hope runs now through Dec. 27 at Bangkok CityCity Gallery. The contemporary art venue is open 1pm to 7pm, Wednesday through Sunday, on Soi Sathorn 1. It can be reached from MRT Lumphini.
