Strolling around in an air-conditioned retail space might as well be one of our national pastimes. We do love our malls in this country, especially when they’ve just been launched — but a new one quietly opened in Bangkok just a few weeks ago without the usual crowds. It’s called Stadium One, and it differentiates itself from the rest as a “sports community mall”.
Spanning 1.7 hectares near the hip neighborhood of Siam Square, the newly-opened Stadium One mall positions itself as Southeast Asia’s largest lifestyle haven for sports and exercise enthusiasts.
The complex includes 30 workout studios, a 7.5km running track, a 12km bike rail, and a 2,000 sqm. event hall that can accommodate anything from sporting events to activities like yoga, street basketball, and boxing matches.
On to the more conventional mall stuff. In shopping, there are over 100 shops slinging sportswear and workout gear. In food and drink, there’s a dining zone selling a spectrum of street and healthy eats. A wellness zone consisting of health and beauty clinics is part of the property, too.
CEO Nuttapak Rikittikul hopes the mall will “encourage more Thais to exercise and become more mindful of their health,” reported Brand Buffet.
Located just 650 meters from National Stadium BTS station, the mall is aimed to become a city landmark, providing a comprehensive lifestyle space with built-in facilities for exercise lovers. As interest in fitness trends rapidly grows, the mall is expected to draw about 10,000 visitors per day.
