“Liquid Bangkok,” an exhibition by Canadian photographer Tim Pelling, demonstrates a collision between the beauty of Bangkok’s waterways and the environmental crises that they bring.

From June 3-24, visit Charoenkrung’s Soy Sauce Factory for an abstract view of Bangkok’s waterways, framed by unconventional objects, such as old houses, lone trees, and clotheslines.

Pelling, in these photographs, captures what Bangkokians tend to turn a blind eye to: the beauty along the city’s decayed canals. Additionally, the exhibition raises awareness on overlooked issues such as water pollution and environmental degradation.

Bangkok’s waterways have always been a part of its urban landscape and history. Pelling uses them to contrast two aspects of the city: the beautiful and the problematic.

Next weekend, take a solo trip or bring some friends to Soy Sauce Factory and go explore the Bangkok waters. Admission is free.
