Before Justin Bieber there was Lonely Boy Paul Anka. The Canadian-American ‘60s heartthrob is making his way to Bangkok for an emotion-draining show in May.
Anka may be 81, but his incredible sugary voice and charm are still pretty much the same – something Bangkok audiences will reminisce over as they hear era-defining hits such as Diana, Lonely Boy, and Put Your Head on My Shoulder when the legendary singer comes through town on his Greatest Hits, His Way tour.
Anka will perform May 15 at the True Icon Hall inside IconSiam shopping mall. Tickets start at THB3,500 and go on sale March 17.
Another Southeast Asian arena on Anka’s concert calendar is Singapore’s The Star Performing Arts Centre on May 13. After that, he will move on and play Tokyo on May 23.
One of the biggest classic pop performers, Anka rose to fame as a teen singing star in the 1950s. His hit Diana sold millions of copies and set him up as a top teen idol with prolific songwriting abilities. The man leaped across media boundaries in the type of stardom that few have achieved, appearing in movies and TV variety shows and writing hits for the likes of Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones.
