Celebrity anchor-turned-fraudster Sorayuth Suthassanachinda has quit his roles at all news programs at Channel 3, following pressure from media organizations.
The 49-year-old anchor, who was found guilty this week of cheating a state channel out of over THB138 million in advertising revenue, announced yesterday he had decided to stop hosting all his news programs.
“From this evening [Thursday], I’d like to end my host duties in order to not affect Channel 3 and for the relief of all parties,” wrote Sorayuth on his personal Instagram.
“Thanks to the Channel 3 family. Thanks to the fans. Thanks for all of your support. Until we meet again.”
Sorayuth’s resignation came after The Thai Broadcast Journalists Association and the News Broadcast Council of Thailand urged the channel to pull him off the air, arguing that the scandal affected the media profession as a whole.
Sorayuth was previously the lead host for three news programs for Channel 3 including the highly-rated “Rueng Lao Chao Nee,” or Morning News.
For this morning’s episode, the show replaced Sorayuth with Krittika Korpaibul, Sorayuth’s former co-anchor on the show.
Sorayuth congratulated Krittika on Instagram this morning, writing that she did a good job and he was proud of her.
