Though electronic and hip-hop seem to be ruling the country’s music festival circuit, later this month, we’ll be seeing a new outdoor event featuring a different subgenre of music — a music festival breath of fresh air, if you will.
The Pink Cloud Festival will run 12 straight hours from noon through midnight with nearly a dozen local and international musical acts. The one-day event is being organized by fresh-faced promoters Wildest Youth, who say that their festival will be a “utopia for outcasts, underdogs and alt-rock lovers.”
Who are some of the acts scheduled to perform? There’s Dune Rats, Aussie rockers (who label themselves as “3 hyperactive stoner c*nts”) and New South Wales surf rock band Hockey Dad. Joining them is the Virginia-born band Turnover, who recently played at Coachella, and Hong Kong shoegazers Thud.
Local bands include reggae-dub group Srirajah Rockers, shoegaze collective Death of Heather and up-and-coming dream pop outfit Wave and So.
The Pink Cloud Festival will run from noon until midnight on May 25 at Thai Wake Park, a lakeside venue in northern metro Bangkok. Tickets are available online starting at THB1,900.
Thai Wake Park is a 45-minute drive from downtown Bangkok. For those who prefer public transportation, there is a shuttle bus available to the festival site (schedule will be available online on a later date.)
