‘One-size-fits-most’ clothing store ‘Brandy Melville’ to open in Bangkok

Brandy Melville, the Italian clothing retailer known for offering tiny crop tops, micro jean shorts, and slouchy sweaters, will open their first shop in Thailand.

According to the Girls All Around fashion website, Brandy Melville plans to open their first shop at Central World. No other details have been revealed yet.

Known for offering “one size fits most” — which only fits very small girls — the brand is widely popular in the States among teen girls for its cheap price tags and aspirational Instagram account. However, the retailer is criticized for promoting one single body type at the exclusion of everyone else.

The media has pointed out that this is especially damaging to teens, who the brand is aimed at, who may resort to unsafe weight-loss methods in order to fit into the small sizes, according to Slate. The popular American site also noted that, “girls above a certain size are already taught they’re not good enough.”

Some Brandy Melville designs have come under fire for featuring bustlines that are only 12 inches across, according to People Magazine.

Brandy Melville’s Instagram account, which has 3.5 million followers, always features models with the same look — white and slender teens with long, wavy blonde hair.

Well, their styles will fit most Thai girls anyway. After all, most clothing stores at local markets offer only one size.
