Bangkok’s old town will get even cooler than now when Bangkok Music City hits next month, with music industry talents transforming the Charoen Krung neighborhood into a creative district alive with the sound of music.
The three-day event is divided into two parts: daytime conferences and nighttime music fest. It runs at several Charoen Krung-area hotspots, from the elegant Grand Postal Building and Bangrak Riverview community mall to shophouse-art space Speedy Grandma, live-jazz hotspot FooJohn and boutique music bar To More.
Among local talents slated to perform are one-of-a-kind mor lam supergroup The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band, Soulful reggae-dub Srirajah Rockers, synth-pop band Polycat and alt-pop duo Whal & Dolph.
Dozens of international music acts will play. Highlight include bluesy Taiwanese garage rockers 88 Balaz, Malaysian pop punk band An Honest Mistake, post-acoustic trio HubbaBubbas from Singapore and Swedish singer Arvid Nero. Read the full lineup online.
The conference will gather musicians, festival organizers, label pros and many more from nearly 20 countries including Japan, India, Sweden and the United Kingdom, to sit down for panel discussions on topics such as music tourism, creative freedom and oppression in Southeast Asia and the dark secrets of Japan’s music scene. Admission is free, but people must register online the conference and festival events.
Bangkok Music City will run Nov. 1 through Nov. 3. It’s co-founded by music platform and event organizer Fungjai and lifestyle publication Nylon Thailand.
