A Malaysian festival celebrating local bands who cover popular alt-rock tunes is bringing their thing to Bangkok this month.
Nine smalltime Thai bands will play covers of hits by ‘90s and noughties pop punk and emo faves Jan. 26 at the Run For Cover Fest. So if you want to hear a full soundalike set by Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, or Fall Out Boy then prepare to rock over to De Commune.
Here are the bands being covered and who’s covering them.
Paramore by Sixday Weekend, Avril Lavigne by Midnight Cereal, My Chemical Romance by Jimmy Revolt, Linkin Park by Patriots, Neck Deep by Hut Boy, Nirvana by Revive 90, Fall Out Boy by Youth of Beef, Green Day by Random F**k, and Limp Bizkit by Forbidden Leaf.
Bangkok is the first place outside of Malaysia where Run for Cover will be held following shows in the Malaysian cities of Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor Bahru. Organized by the founders of Malaysia’s NMF festival, it will head to Jakarta in February.
