Thai indie band accused of copying American guitarist Colbie Caillat

Fans of modern rock band Musketeers were left disappointed after an online forum exposed that the band had copied one of its latest singles from American pop singer/acoustic guitarist Colbie Caillat.

A member of famous Thai forum Pantip set up a thread this Sunday titled, “Thick Face of Musketeers.” It started with the message: “Check out for yourself. They want us to buy official disks but look what they’ve done.”

The member Music of The Night posted two music videos for viewers’ consideration – “Yak Hai Ther Long (I want you to try)” by Musketeers and “Out of My Mind” by Caillat. The similarity in rhythm and melody between the two songs shocked many of Musketeers devotees, who love the band because of its original style.

“I am surprised to hear that there are two parts of Musketeers’ song that resembles Caillat’s,” said Pantip member Nak Leng Pleng Siam. “Normally, those songs will have only one part that is similar to the other songs. But here comes two parts, pre-chorus and chorus.”

“I always buy official discs because I want to support artists,” said Bluebird at Bonneville. “I have both albums of Mukeeteers. Why have you done so?”

Musketeers, which is signed to Believe Records, released its second album, Uprising, late last year. Many of its songs are in regular rotation on various radio stations. Musketeers has over 448,000 fans on its Facebook public page. Its YouTube video for the embattled song netted over 12.6 million views in four months.

According to an unconfirmed report, Musketeers will give a press conference this Friday.
