Lady Gaga is rumored to be arriving tonight in Bangkok on a private 747 for her performance of the Born This Way Ball at Rajamangala Stadium on Friday.
Her show will be the biggest that Thailand has even seen, with the production equipment for the show being transported in three 747s and 20 sea containers. We aren’t sure whether Lady Gaga’s 747 is included in the three being used to carry her stuff, but regardless this is a big deal.
Security at the show will be no slouch either.
Pol Maj-General Anant Srihiran recently revealed that police will divide the Rajamangala area into three zones for the event. The inner zone of Rajamangala Stadium will have traffic barriers to secure routes for VIPs and concert-goers will be subject to body searches for explosives and weapons. In the middle zone within the sports complex, police will inspect vehicles and incoming crowds with officers positioned at height to look for “long-range” attacks. Outside the complex in the third zone, officers will be posted at several points to look for “trajectory weapons,” he said according to the Nation.
Does that all sound like a bit much?
It may be. But threats of violence from Muslim extremists for Gaga’s June 3 show in Jakarta and protests at her performances in Manila this week, have probably spooked concert organizers.
The Born This Way Ball reportedly features expletives, simulated sex acts, and people being “gunned” down onstage – so it certainly isn’t for the sexually and morally feint of heart.
Lady Gaga is widely adored here in Thailand though, and only minor concerns have been publicly aired about her risque show.
Coconuts Bangkok will have full coverage of the Born This Way Ball Friday night.
