It’s official: 230 years after Bangkok was founded on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the people have chosen a slogan that “best reflects the capital’s uniqueness.”
Some 125,000 people submitted entries in a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration-organized contest to create a slogan for the Thai capital and after narrowing the field down to five finalists, voters have chosen a winner, TANN reported.
So what is Bangkok in a nutshell? More than 42,000 votes declared, “As built by deities, the administrative center, dazzling palaces and temples, the capital of Thailand” best captures what the City of Angels has to offer.
The new slogan is to be used on special occasions such as the upcoming 230th anniversary of King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke’s decision to move the nation’s capital from Thonburi, on the opposite side of the Chao Phraya, to it’s present location.
At an award ceremony to be presided by Bangkok governor Sukhumband Paribatra, the winner will be given THB500,000 and a random voter selected by lucky draw will be given THB100,000.
