After Netflix added Thai subtitles for the first time in 2017 (and finally added more TV shows for the Asia Pacific region to make it worth the subscription fee), Thailand has had a year of show binging.
Netflix revealed yesterday that more Thais stream content from Netflix on TV than ever. Within six months of subscribing, 50 percent of account holders were using their TVs as the primary viewing device over laptops or mobiles. The improved HDR quality available on mobiles also means that more Thais watch Netflix in public and are ranked among the top downloaders in the world.
Weirdly, out of hundreds of movies and TV shows to watch, Netflix also noted that one user in Thailand watched “Sex and the City: The Movie” a total of 162 times this year.

More importantly, the company revealed the most popular shows among users in Thailand. Leading the list is the Korean series “My Only Love Song,” while Marvel’s TV shows took two spots. Strangely, the popular sci-fi series “Stranger Things” is not on the list. Instead, Thailand catches up with the global trend by watching American Vandal, El Chapo, and Riverdale.
The shows Thais devoured in 2017:
- My Only Love Song
- Marvel’s Iron Fist
- The Mist
- El Chapo
- Riverdale
- Shooter
- Ingobernable
- Greenleaf
- American Vandal
- Marvel’s The Defender
Quite similar to Thailand, American Vandal was the most binge-watched show of 2017 for users around the world.

This year, Netflix members around the world watched more than 140 million hours of TV shows and movies per day.
That’s what we’ve done with our lives.
