Natcha on Film: New movies opening today July 23

Ted 2

Well, we all know how sequels end up to these kind of movies.

Ted 2 continues the tale of a talking teddy bear after he marries a blonde chick and decides that they want to have a child. However he isn’t allowed to have a child since he is a teddy bear and must prove to the court that he is a living being.

Seriously, I can’t even. What world do we live in now to find it funny for a teddy bear to have a child? Honestly they should have stopped making Ted movies right before “Ted.”

Poltergeist

This film is as cliche as horror films get. Probably because it’s a remake of a 1982 film that was then copied into cliche.

Family moves into new house. Child senses evil spirit in new home. Child gets held captive. Family attempts to save child.

I don’t understand why Hollywood would recycle old plots from previous movies that have already been recycled a thousand times under other names. Why watch this in theaters when you can just watch a different film with the same plot that’s probably already available to you?

This film came out elsewhere a few months back and according to reviews is a lame mess.

Southpaw

A lot of recent boxing films have turned out quite well, so I’m feeling pretty excited about this one.

“Southpaw” is about Billy Hope, a boxer who tries to get his life back together after losing his wife in a tragic accident and his child to state protection services.

The only bias I have against this film is seeing 50-Cent among the cast. I can’t take him seriously in any of the roles he’s acted in and probably won’t be able to stand him in this film. Other than that, this film looks pretty solid.

Keun-Nun (Red Wine in the Dark Night)

Looks like Twilight just took a sharp turn.

After watching the trailer, the film seems to have only two things going on: half-naked dudes kissing each other and a lot of blood sucking. I’m not sure what direction this film is trying to go for but it seems like the type of movie that my countrymen will definitely spend their money on.

Latitude 6

“Latitude 6” looks like a ripoff of your cliche drama/war movies except it takes place in Thailand, which is the only thing it has going for it. That and support of the military government who created it as a propaganda peacemaking film for the Thai south.

The film takes place in the province of Pattani where a Buddhist Bangkok guy is relocated to by his job. Amid daily bombings he meets this Muslim woman he falls in love with. Long story short: Man tries to gain dad’s approval but the father doesn’t approve of him.

I don’t see anything special about this film besides the fact that it’s a change from the typical Thai drama of a bunch of Hi-So teens (*cough Gossip Girl Thailand cough*).

Mon-Love-10-Meun

I only needed to watch the trailer once to know that this is going to be a horrible movie.

This Thai film contains your typical cringe-worthy jokes that aren’t really even that funny and the added sound effects after each joke doesn’t help either. Half of the trailer was about cock fighting then the plot suddenly veers to a man who must pay a THB100,000 dowry.

I don’t think I’ll be there to see this one. But the domestic film industry doesn’t churn out these formula comedies for the urban audience. #loveditinburiram
