Parties in Bangkok are like candy from Willy Wonka’s factory. Supply is high and there’s an overwhelming number of flavors to choose from. Finding the right crew to match your personal party style can be as difficult as finding a soulmate or dependable doctor in this city – and just as important.
Can I get sloppy drunk without shame? What will everyone be wearing? Will this party have a crowd I’m comfortable with? Will it have MUSIC I’m comfortable with? Is it queer-friendly? Hipster-friendly? So many questions – what a world, what a world!
We want to help with this important and difficult decision, so we set out to interview some of the coolest and need-to-know-est party planners and organizers here in the BKK. We feel the best parties reflect the cultural mix of this international city, so you should have a good time and feel comfortable no matter how many syllables are in your name.
First up is Spoiled Rotten. As their name suggests, this group is more about indulging hedonistic party needs than social responsibility. You won’t hear Top 40 tracks bumping through the speaker system, and Spoiled Rotten is confident enough to defy genre limitations. It’s a risk that pays off because their eclectic music selections, no matter how wildly varied, share a central theme: ego-free dancing fun. No matter the decade or style, their set list is linked by a common thread: Before “I can dance to this” becomes “I will dance to this,” it’s too late because you’re already dancing.
We spoke to the poster child for Spoiled Rotten kids everywhere, Maynisa Puengton.

CB: Describe Spoiled Rotten in no more than 10 words.
SR: Guilty pleasures, sweaty, sincere, total dance floor destruction.
CB: Who is in Spoiled Rotten, and what do they bring to the group?
SR: We have three core members: DJ Moola, Logan Bay and May (me). Moola is our resident vinyl master and international taste-maker. Logan draws our weird flyers and tries to turn dreams into reality. I guess I’m the ringmaster cracking the whip and making the tigers jump through flaming hoops. We also collaborate with an amazing cast of local and international DJs.
CB: Who’s the biggest party animal among you?
SR: Since animals have fur we will have to judge this based on amount facial hair. So Moola would be the winner, with Logan coming in a close second, and I would be last (no ‘stache here).

DJ Logan Bay
CB: How did Spoiled Rotten begin?
SR: A drunken game of “Truth or Dare.” I choose “dare,” and the rest is history.
CB: What separates Spoiled Rotten from the other party planners in Bangkok?
SR: We encourage flip-flops in the club!
CB: What kind of crowd do you like to see at your parties?
SR: Spoiled Rotten leans a little more than farang than Thai, but we have a lot of Thai fans who come to our parties. More are always welcome. I like to be friendly with anyone who likes to get drunk and not dry-hump me too much.

CB: In your opinion, what makes Bangkok such a great place to party?
SR: Bangkok has always been a hub of activity in the region, and over the past few years we have seen that grow exponentially, bringing in party people from all over the globe. This makes for a unique night life environment with lots of characters, styles and mayhem.
CB: When you’re not partying, what do you do?
SR: Hitting up happy hour and getting our nails done.
CB: Favorite event you’ve curated, or favorite moment from one of your events?
SR: That moment at every party, when the whole room is dancing, screaming and losing their minds. We live for that.

CB: What’s your favorite song to dance to?
SR: “1thing” by Amarie
CB: What can we expect from Spoiled Rotten in the future?
SR: More theme parties, more special guests, more fun. Our next party Uncooked Rice will be May 2 at Wine Bibber Sangria, on Ekkamai. We are also planning an epic warehouse event before the year ends, but details are hush-hush. You’ll have to wait for the info line to ring and anonymous emails to be sent before we give out the details on that one.
