Some people think that a black cat crossing your path is bad luck, but in the heart of Bangkok, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Not your usual whiskey bar, The Black Cat is a hip, gregarious new hangout that is enlivening Soi Langsuan and the surrounding district.
If anything, you’re in luck when you visit The Black Cat, which not only treats its guests to delectable comfort foods like Wagyu skewers and tiger prawn skewers, but also a bevy of uncanny cocktails.
Located next to the lobby of Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok, this bar’s graceful and enchanting details are inspired by the feline traits. Its cocktails too are themed on types of auspicious Thai cats and famous cats from around the world, and are made using premium Thai produce. Korn Ja, or The Black Cat, is made from Mekong infused with ginger cola syrup, and is topped with golden powder and ginger slices.
This jovial hangout’s other signature cocktails like the Khao Manee, or The Diamond Eye, too are themed on mythological ‘lucky cats’. This gin concoction blends pineapple juice and honey syrup, and is garnished with a drop of blue liquor that resembles a cat’s eye. Inspired by Thai cuisine, the Wichien Maat, or Siamese Cat, comprises spiced rum blended with house-made yellow curry. Order the Supalak, or Copper, to enjoy a refreshing take on the classic Negroni—this discerning creation complements local Sangsom with Campari, Mancino Bianco vermouth and passion fruit.
Mocktail lovers can opt for the Garfield, a concoction of orange juice, lemonade and grapefruit syrup topped with soda, which is inspired by its namesake orange and crabby cartoon character.
Whether you’re looking to unwind after a hard day’s work or to fete a special occasion, you’ll love The Black Cat’s friendly atmosphere, affordable refreshments and live music performances.
