The Marvel Experience: Geek out at Bangkok’s new digital themed attraction

Evil forces are descending upon Southeast Asia, and Bangkok is their first target. The Marvel heroes need your help to save the Thai capital from mayhem.

Sound exciting? Then you’re the target market for “The Marvel Experience,” a new digital themed attraction that will open on Friday at Bangkok’s Mega Bangna shopping mall.

Coconuts Bangkok got a preview of the attraction yesterday — here’s what to expect.

The Marvel Experience is part of the shopping mall, but has its own designated building in the parking lot. Upon entering its large lobby, visitors are greeted by staff donning black and gray jumpsuits. Here’s where you decide whether to embark on the experience in your preferred language — Thai, English, or Chinese — and have your photograph taken for a  S.H.I.E.L.D identification card.

As with any digital themed attraction, the Marvel Experience starts off with lots of briefing: You have to go through four rooms just to listen to what Nick Fury and Tony Stark have to say about the Marvel mission at hand, and what we need to do to save Bangkok.

This part of the experience takes about 20 minutes, which is then followed by the first interactive game — shooting.

There are three main gaming points…

Holoblaster Shooting Gallery

After all that briefing, this is the room where Recruits (that’s you) start training. This entails picking up a laser gun, putting on 3D glasses, and shooting all manner of harmless objects that pop up on a large projector in front of you.

4D Motion Ride

The main highlight of the entire experience. Recruits simply take the seats on the BKK Shuttle, and enjoy the ride…

No spoilers here. We wouldn’t do that to you.

Training Center

This last interactive game lets you train like the Marvel super heroes do.

The options are: Iron Man’s Flight Training, Hulk’s “Punch Out,” and Black Panther’s “High Jump.”

The whole thing ends with a meet-and-greet. Visitors can walk into each photo booth and rub shoulders with their favorite heroes. (We only got to meet Captain America. Here he is.)

Next, the unavoidable — the souvenir shop. Lots of merchandise for kids here (no surprise). There’s also a snack bar called The Avengers Cafe and a bounce house for children on the facility’s second floor.
