Man Bait: Mario sent to lure Chinese tourists

Officials sent celebrity heartthrob Mario Maurer to China to promote Thai tourism in hopes of netting more than six million visitors this year.

The Chinese-German actor met with with 300 fans in China where he participated in a Thai food cooking challenge and taught some Thai words to promote the culture, according to Srisuda Wanapinyosak of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

“Mario was in China to give interviews to the press and introduce tourism promo videos that he starred in to persuade people to visit Bangkok, Trang, Chiang Mai, Lampang and Pattaya.”

Yep, they’re coming.

In the first quarter of this year, Thailand welcomed 679,660 Chinese tourists, who accounted for 26 percent of all visitors, Daily News and Thairath reported.
