“What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me? What are you wondering? What do you know?”

That was how mega superstar Billie Eilish made her presence known to her fans last night at Impact Arena, stepping onto the stage singing the first few verses of Bury a Friend. There, her larger-than-life popstar energy gave way to an intimate performance that sent 10,000-plus fans into a frenzy.

For the next 90 minutes, they jumped, danced, and sang with the star whose soft-spoken, breathy voice offered a warm wave of comfort.

Two hours prior to the show, fans were already swarming outside the arena, queuing for drinks, merch, and seats. An hour after the appointed time, screams filled the venue as the lights went out and a set began that cherry-picked catalog hits including Therefore I Am, My Strange Addiction, and You Should See Me in a Crown.

During several short breaks, the 20-year-old American singer reminded fans they were all loved and encouraged them to let go.

“I am giving you permission to lose your mind. I just want you to have a good time,” she said. “I want everybody here to loosen up with me, and jump around!”

Many fans refused to stay seated and instead stood up to sing every song word-for-word.

At one point she sat down with her real life brother, the singer-songwriter Finneas, for acoustic ballads such as I Love You, Your Power, and TV.

“Say hi to my brother, my best friend, my everything,” she said, seated next to the bearded guitarist.

To many fans’ expectations she ended the concert with two of her wildly popular radio hits – the viral and meme-worthy Bad Guy and the tour’s titular belter Happier Than Ever.
